What is a Doula?
Birth Doulas accompany families in labor to help ensure a safe and satisfying birth experience. Doulas draw on their education, professional training, and experience to provide emotional, informational, spiritual, and physical support. Doulas can provide reassurance and perspective, make suggestions for labor progress, and help with relaxation, massage, positioning, and other techniques for comfort.
We will meet with you and your partner twice before labor to become acquainted, to explore and discuss your birth priorities, and how we might work best together. During these visits we will explore and design the vision for your birth. We are available during this time via phone or email for support. We can also provide you birth related resources and/or referrals when needed.
Your Doula will join you at home or within the birth space when you feel ready for support. During labor we provide guidance around position changing, massage, application of counter-pressure when necessary, hydrotherapy and getting in the tub, aromatherapy, and breathing techniques. We meet you where you are at- physically, mentally and emotionally- continuously reading the room, while providing encouragement, affirmation and reassurance for the birthing parent and their loved ones.
We will stay with you 2-3 hours post birth to help with baby’s first feed, and will check in via phone 24 hours after delivery. We will schedule a visit 3-4 days post birth to process your birth story together and address any resources or referrals needed.
